5/11/05 - The Hunt for Alantha Chath

Feeling refreshed after your rest at Waley Krow’s residence, you set out west, towards Karom’s Fall. Along the way, you came upon an acting troupe that had been heading there for inspiration, but turned around when they learned that the area had become dangerous. One of the actresses was angry with Wilks, and you can only guess that she must have been a jilted lover, or perhaps just a one-night “distraction” for the bard. Wilks, in his charming way, managed to sooth her anger, though. While that flirtation was occurring, the actors attempted unsuccessfully to get Miguel to join their ranks. Miguel would have none of that, and the group resumed their westward journey.

As you continued west, you came upon a camp of Thun-foul. The creatures attacked you, and during that fight you realized just how tough it was without a fighter like Simon. But, you prevailed, and continued west.

Eventually, you came to the Pilgrims’ Rest, the shrine at the foot of Karom’s Fall that had been built by the followers of Trianda, so that they might have a base of operations during their annual pilgrimage to refurbish the Hall of the Never Forgotten. Outside the Rest, a group of black-clad men were confronting the pilgrims. The leader of the men in black insulted Trianda and spoke of the coming power of the “Faceless One,” and tried to dissuade the pilgrims from their beliefs. Bree and Miguel jumped in to defend their faith, and eventually the black-clad men left in disgust.

Jolor the Thankful, the leader of the pilgrims, then invited you into the Pilgrims’ Rest. There, you saw a beheaded statue of the Avengress, who was a powerful holy warrior of Trianda in the Battle of Karom’s Fall, or, as some say, the avatar of the goddess herself. In any event, it was this woman that turned the tide of battle on Karom’s final day 1006 years ago.

Jolor spoke of finding Thun-foul clawings around the statue when the pilgrims arrived a day earlier, and a path of destruction leading to the Hall of the Never Forgotten. He expressed his hope that you would find the head of the statue, and cleanse the Hall of the Thun-foul.

Jolor led you to Karom’s Fall, showing you some of the historic sites, such as the graves of the identified soldiers, a statue to the goddess Zhora, and the spot where Karom himself had been struck down. He then led you to the entrance of the Hall of the Never Forgotten, wished you luck, and departed.

You entered the Hall, finding it to be occupied by spiders, oozes, and Thun-foul. You also encountered a ghost, that appeared to be clad in royal garb. The ghost spoke cryptically about her son, Lockarm, a powerful warrior. She spoke of the desecration of his body, and you saw a mummified corpse, amazingly well preserved but with its heart obviously ripped from its chest. As she faded away, you heard her wail about the evil deeds of the men wearing black.

Continuing onward, you were attacked by two halflings. Killing them, you found a note on one of them which revealed that they were yet more bounty hunters, seeking to kill all of you.

You are now ready to continue onward, searching for the tome that speaks of the lost Woodvale elves, and perhaps to find the head of the statue of the Avengress.
