Since, as explained in the forums, I've found a fix to the DMFI UI problem, the registration page for the October 21 session is now up. Please sign up if you can make it, or post a message in the Session Availability forum if you can't. The sooner the better, but in any event no later than 7 hours before game time, please. Regarding the DMFI fix, it is something all of you will eventually need to apply locally. I've posted instructions here. You may want to wait a few days before applying it, in case an official fix is released. If no official fix comes, then later this week I'll post those same instructions in the DMFI thread in the forums, and ask you all to apply the fix.
A follow-up to the news item just below this one: I popped over into the DMFI guild forums, and learned that the UI issue mentioned below is in fact something broken by MotB. There were no suggestions there for a fix, just word that it will be looked at (possibly after the first post-release patch, which should be very soon).
So, I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but we will need to postpone the session today. As I mentioned below, not only is DMFI almost essential for any session, but there is an encounter that you will probably get to this session (or possibly early next) for which I absolutely need DMFI. I can't say more without giving things away. After reading the great roleplay in the forums this week, I was really looking forward to it, too. But, this is the sort of issue that I feared earlier in the week. I guess this is the price we pay for being "early adopters" in a sense. Keep an eye out here for any word on getting this fixed.
I just tested out both my module and the DMFI testing module, and have run into a show stopping issue - the DMFI user interface is gone for me in both modules. I even went back in and reinstalled the DMFI user interface files (including the 1.05 hotfix file) to see if perhaps the expansion had overwritten something, but no dice - still no interface. I need a favor if someone reads this soon - can you download the DMFI test module (if you don't still have it in your modules directory), load it up to play it, and see if you see the DMFI interface is there in your game client. It was missing for me in both the game client and DM client. If you do have it, then it is a bug on my end that perhaps I can fix. If you don't, then it is an incompatibility between the DMFI tools and MotB.
If I can't figure this out soon, we can't play tonight. Not only is DMing without DMFI going to be next to impossible with only one DM (Bigbluepaw is out of town), but there is one encounter in particular for which I know I will absolutely need the tools. So, if someone can take a look at this, it would be much appreciated.
Please run WorldGate before Sunday's session. I added a f ew areas to the module. When the "Versioning System" message pops up, click "yes" to continue.
We have three votes to play Sunday now, so assume that we are playing, and sign up if you are available. However, if it turns out that a few of you report in soon that you can't get your hands on MotB before Sunday, then we might end up still postponing if we don't have enough players. Also, please check here leading up the game, as I will anounce what patch version we will be using. Right now, there are three different versions of patch 1.10, so that could be a bit confusing.
On Monday, I posted an article and a poll asking whether everyone wanted to play on Sunday, or take this week off to play MotB and let the inevitable bugs get worked out. We've had two responses so far (1 to play, 1 to wait). Half the group has not signed on to the site since Monday, so I'm concerned that several of you might not be aware that you will need MotB for Sunday (and therefore might not be ready). Based on that, and seeing some of the bugs reported (e.g. someone reported that the DM avatar now has a glowing halo, even when invisible, although this is unconfirmed), I'm leaning towards not playing, but sound off by 1:00 p.m. Eastern today if you have an opinion. I will announce this afternoon whether or not we are playing.
UPDATE, 10/11/07, 12:44 p.m. p.m. EDT: There is a new post indicating that it is now safe to use the updater. So, it seems you can now install MotB, and then simply run the updater. Here is the post.
UPDATE, 4:37 p.m. EDT: It appears that there is/was a patch available via the updater today that contained the hotfix mentioned below, but then Obsidian's Rob McGinnis posted in the forums that there was an error in this updater patch that would wipe or change the CD key installed on your computer. He thus was directing people NOT to run the automatic updater after installing MotB. A revised patch is evidently coming, but it is anyone's guess where this leaves us now. So, install at your own risk.
A little tip from your friendly neighborhood DM for getting the expansion to work properly: This post contains a link to a hotfix that resolves an issue with patch 1.10 and Mask of the Betrayer. Evidently, you will see missing text in the expansion if you don't install the hotfix. If you are at patch 1.10 (which you are if you played here on Sunday), you should install the expansion first, and then the hotfix. {mos_fb_discuss:14}
