Spoiler Alert!
This has nothing to do with Naeldor, or even Neverwinter Nights, but if you don't want to be surprised about what Wizards of the Coast has cooked up for the Forgotten Realms in the future, read no more. With that warning out of the way, I was reading in a NWN2 module author's blog about some HUGE changes coming to the Forgotten Realms. Maerduin's Blog is reporting that Cyric and Shar murder Mystra (goddess of magic), and then magic bursts its bonds all across Faerun and the surrounding planes and runs wild (the "Spellplague"). "Thousands of mages are driven insane or destroyed, and the very substance of the world becomes mutable beneath veils of azure fire that dance across the skies by night or by day. Many planes are shifted or destroyed as well. Only greater deities prove strong enough to maintain their realms against the resultant chaos. Tyr, Lathander, and Sune move against Cyric and successfully imprison the Black Sun in his Supreme Throne, under a sentence of house arrest to last one thousand years . . P.S. Tyr and Tymora get engaged. For serious. P.P.S. Tyr kills Helm."
As Maerduin's Blog indicates, this is presumably to get ready for 4th Edition D&D, due out in 2008. Not being a journalist, I haven't corroborated this story with other sources, other than to Google it, and see that other sites do indeed reference the Year of Blue Fire, and the Spellplague. Or am I late to the party, and this is common knowledge now?
